गजेन्द्र मोक्ष (गज और ग्राह कथा)

हिंदू धर्म के प्रथम ग्रंथ ''श्रीमद्भगवद गीता'' के तीसरे अध्याय में गजेंद्र स्तोत्र पढ़ने को मिलता है। इसमें कुल 33 श्लोक दिए गए हैं। हिंदू धर्म के अनुसार इस स्तोत्र का जाप करने से जीवन में किसी प्रकार की परेशानियों से तत्काल मुक्ति मिल जाती है। इस स्तोत्र में हाथी और मगरमच्छ के साथ हुए युद्ध का वर्णन किया गया है।  तो आइएं जाने गजेंद्र मोक्ष स्त्रोत के साथ-साथ उनके गीत और महत्व।

Gajendra Stotra is read in the third chapter of the first book of Hinduism "Shrimad Bhagavad Gita". A total of 33 verses have been given in it. श्रीमद्भागवतान्तर्गतगजेन्द्र कृत भगवान का स्तवन
                श्री शुक उवाच
एवं व्यवसितो बुद्ध्या समाधाय मनो हृदि।
 जजाप परमं जाप्यं प्राग्जन्मन्यनुशिक्षितम॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ- शुक्र जी ने कहा, कि बुद्धि के अनुसार पिछले अध्याय में वर्णन किए गए रीति से अपने मन को नियंत्रित कर और हृदय को स्थिर करके गजेंद्र अपने पिछले जन्म में याद किए गए सर्वोच्च कार्य और और बार-बार जाप किए जाने वाले स्रोत का जाप करने लगा।

ॐ नमो भगवते तस्मै यत एतच्चिदात्मकम।

हिन्दी में अर्थ- गजेंद्र ने मन ही मन श्री हरी को ध्यान करते हुए कहा कि, जिनके प्रवेश करने से शरीर और मस्तिष्क चेतन की तरह व्यवहार करने लगते हैं, ॐ द्वारा लक्षित और पूरे शरीर में प्रकृति और पुरुष के रूप में प्रवेश करने वाले उस सर्व शक्तिमान देवता का मैं मन ही मन स्मरण करता हूँ।

यस्मिन्निदं यतश्चेदं येनेदं य इदं स्वयं।

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  जिनके सहारे ये पूरा संसार टिका हुआ है, जिनसे ये संसार अवतरित हुआ है, जिन्होनें प्रकृति की रचना की है और जो खुद उसके रूप में प्रकट हैं, लेकिन इसके वाबजूद भी वो इस दूनिया से सर्वोपरि और श्रेष्ठ हैं। ऐसे अपने आप और बिना किसी कारण के भगवान् की मैं शरण में जाता हूँ।

यः स्वात्मनीदं निजमाययार्पितंक्कचिद्विभातं क्क च तत्तिरोहितम।
अविद्धदृक साक्ष्युभयं तदीक्षतेस आत्ममूलोवतु मां परात्परः॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ- अपने संकल्प शक्ति के बल पर अपने ही स्वरूप में रचित और सृष्टि काल में प्रकट एवं प्रलय में अप्रकट रहने वाले, इस शास्त्र प्रसिद्धि प्राप्त कार्य कारण रुपी संसार को जो बिना कुंठित दृष्टि के साक्ष्य रूप में देखते रहने पर भी लिप्त नहीं होते, चक्षु आदि प्रकाशकों के परम प्रकाशक प्रभु आप मेरी रक्षा करें

कालेन पंचत्वमितेषु कृत्स्नशोलोकेषु पालेषु च सर्व हेतुषु।
तमस्तदाऽऽऽसीद गहनं गभीरंयस्तस्य पारेऽभिविराजते विभुः।।

हिन्दी में अर्थ- बीतते गए समय के साथ तीनों लोकों और ब्रह्मादि लोकपालों के पंचभूत में प्रवेश कर जाने पर और पंचभूतों से लेकर महत्वपूर्ण सभी कारणों के उनकी परमकरूणा स्वरूप प्रकृति में मग्न हो जाने पर उस समय दुर्ज्ञेर और घोर अंडकार रूपेण प्रकृति ही बच रही थी। उस अन्धकार से परे अपने परम धाम में जो सर्वव्यापी भगवान सभी दिशाओं में प्रकाशित होते रहते हैं, वो भगवान मेरी रक्षा करें।

न यस्य देवा ऋषयः पदं विदुर्जन्तुः पुनः कोऽर्हति गन्तुमीरितुम।
यथा नटस्याकृतिभिर्विचेष्टतोदुरत्ययानुक्रमणः स मावतु॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  विभिन्न नाट्य रूपों में अभिनय करने वाले और उस अभिनेता के वास्तविक स्वरूप को जिस प्रकार से साधारण लोग भी नहीं पहचान पाते, उसी तरह से सत्त्व प्रधान देवता और महर्षि भी जिनके स्वरूप को नहीं जान पाते, ऐसे में कोई साधारण प्राणी उनका वर्णन कैसे कर सकता है। ऐसे दुर्गम चरित्र वाले भगवान मेरी रक्षा करें।

दिदृक्षवो यस्य पदं सुमंगलमविमुक्त संगा मुनयः सुसाधवः।
चरन्त्यलोकव्रतमव्रणं वनेभूतत्मभूता सुहृदः स मे गतिः॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  अनेको शक्ति से मुक्त, सभी प्राणियों को आत्मबुद्धि प्रदान करने वाले, सबके बिना कारण हित और अतिशय साधु स्वभाव ऋषि मुनि जन जिनके परम स्वरूप को देखने की इच्छा के साथ वन में रहकर अखंड ब्रह्मचर्य तमाम अलौकिक व्रतों को नियमों के अनुसार पालन करते हैं, ऐसे प्रभु ही मेरी गति हैं।

न विद्यते यस्य न जन्म कर्म वान नाम रूपे गुणदोष एव वा।
तथापि लोकाप्ययाम्भवाय यःस्वमायया तान्युलाकमृच्छति॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  वह जिनका हमारी तरह ना तो जन्म होता है और ना जिनका अहंकार में कोई भी काम नहीं होता है, जिनके निर्गुण रूप का ना कोई नाम है और ना कोई रूप है, इसके बावजूद भी वह समय के साथ इस संसार की सृष्टि और प्रलय के लिए अपनी इच्छा से अपने जन्म को स्वीकार करते हैं।

तस्मै नमः परेशाय ब्राह्मणेऽनन्तशक्तये।
अरूपायोरुरूपाय नम आश्चर्य कर्मणे॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  उस अनंत शक्ति वाले परम ब्रह्मा परमेश्वर को मेरा ननस्कार है। प्राकृत, आकार रहित और अनेक रूप वाले अद्भुत भगवान् को मेरा बार बार नमस्कार है।

नम आत्म प्रदीपाय साक्षिणे परमात्मने।
नमो गिरां विदूराय मनसश्चेतसामपि॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ- स्वयं प्रकाशित सभी साक्ष्य परमेश्वर को मेरा शत् शत् नमन है। वैसे देव जो नम, वाणी और चित्तवृतियों से परे हैं उन्हें मेरा बारंबार नमस्कार है।

हिन्दी में अर्थ- विवेक से परिपूर्ण, पुरुष के द्वारा सभी सत्त्व गुणों से परिपूर्ण, निवृति धर्म के आचरण से मिलने वाले योग्य, मोक्ष सुख की अनुभूति रुपी भगवान को मेरा नमस्कार है।

नमः शान्ताय घोराय मूढाय गुण धर्मिणे।
निर्विशेषाय साम्याय नमो ज्ञानघनाय च॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ- सभी गुणों के स्वीकार शांत, रजोगुण को स्वीकार करके अत्यंत और तमोगुण को अपनाकर मूढ़ से जाने जाने वाले, बिना भेद के और हमेशा सद्भाव से  ज्ञानधनी प्रभु को मेरा नमस्कार है।

हिन्दी में अर्थ- शरीर के इंद्रिय के समुदाय रूप , सभी पिंडों के ज्ञाता, सबों के स्वामी और साक्षी स्वरूप देव आपको मेरा नमस्कार। सबो के अंतर्यामी, प्रकृति के परम कारण लेकिन स्वयं बिना कारण भगवान को मेरा शत शत नमस्कार।

सर्वेन्द्रियगुणद्रष्ट्रे सर्वप्रत्ययहेतवे।
असताच्छाययोक्ताय सदाभासय ते नमः॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  सभी इन्द्रियों और सभी विषयों के जानकार, सभी प्रतीतियों के कारण रूप, सम्पूर्ण जड़-प्रपंच और सबकी मूलभूता अविद्या के द्वारा सूचित होने वाले और सभी विषयों में अविद्यारूप से भासने वाले भगवान को मेरा नमस्कार है।

गुणारणिच्छन्न चिदूष्मपायतत्क्षोभविस्फूर्जित मान्साय।
नैष्कर्म्यभावेन विवर्जितागम-स्वयंप्रकाशाय नमस्करोमि॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ- वह जो त्रिगुण रूपो में छिपी हुई ज्ञान रुपी अग्नि हैं, वैसे गुणों में हलचल होने पर जिनके मन मस्तिष्क में संसार को रचने की वृति उत्पन्न हो उठती हो और जो आत्मा तत्व की भावना के द्वारा विधि निषेध रूप शास्त्र से भी ऊपर उठे हो, जो महाज्ञानी महत्माओं में स्वयं प्रकाशित हो रहे हैं, ऐसे भगवान को मेरा नमस्कार है।

मादृक्प्रपन्नपशुपाशविमोक्षणायमुक्ताय भूरिकरुणाय नमोऽलयाय।
स्वांशेन सर्वतनुभृन्मनसि प्रतीत प्रत्यग्दृशे भगवते बृहते नमस्ते॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  मेरे जैसे शरणागत, पशु के सामान जीवों की अविद्यारूप, फांसी को पूर्ण रूप से काट देने वाले परम दयालु और दया दिखने में कभी भी आलस नहीं करने वाले भगवान को मेरा नमस्कार है। अपने अंश से सभी जीवों के मन में अंतर्यामी रूप से प्रकट होने वाले सर्व नियंता अनंत परमात्मा आपको मेरा नमस्कार है।

यं धर्मकामार्थविमुक्तिकामाभजन्त इष्टां गतिमाप्नुवन्ति।
किं त्वाशिषो रात्यपि देहमव्ययंकरोतु मेदभ्रदयो विमोक्षणम॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  वह जिन्हें धर्म, अभिलषित भोग, धन और मोक्ष की कामना से मनन करके लोग अपनी मनचाही इच्छा पूर्ण कर लेते हैं। अपितु जिन्हे विभिन्न प्रकार के अयाचित भोग और अविनाशी पार्षद शरीर भी देते हैं, वैसे अत्यंत दयालु प्रभु मुझे इस प्रकार के विपदा से हमेशा के लिए बाहर निकालें।

एकान्तिनो यस्य न कंचनार्थवांछन्ति ये वै भगवत्प्रपन्नाः।
अत्यद्भुतं तच्चरितं सुमंगलंगायन्त आनन्न्द समुद्रमग्नाः॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  वह जिनके एक से अधिक भक्त है, जो मुख्य रूप से एकमात्र उसी भगवान् के शरण में हैं। जो धर्म, अर्थ आदि किसी भी पदार्थ की अभिलासा नहीं रखते है, जो केवल उन्ही के परम मंगलमय एवं अत्यंत विलक्षण चरित्र का गुणगान करते हुए उनके आनंदमय समुद्र में गोते लगाते रहते हैं।

तमक्षरं ब्रह्म परं परेश-मव्यक्तमाध्यात्मिकयोगगम्यम।
अतीन्द्रियं सूक्षममिवातिदूर-मनन्तमाद्यं परिपूर्णमीडे॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  उन अविनाशी, सर्वव्यापी, सर्वमान्य, ब्रह्मादि के भी नियामक, अभक्तों के लिए भी हमेशा प्रकट होने वाले, भक्तियोग द्वारा प्राप्त, अत्यंत निकट होने पर भी माया के कारण अत्यंत दूर महसूस होने वाले, इन्द्रियों के द्वारा अगम्य और अत्यंत दुर्विज्ञेय, अंतरहित लेकिन सभी के आदिकारक और सभी तरफ से परिपूर्ण उस  भगवान् की मैं स्तुति करता हूँ।

Those indestructible, omnipresent, omnipotent, even regulators of Brahmadi, always appearing to the devotees, attained by Bhakti Yoga, feeling extremely distant due to Maya even after being extremely close, impassable and extremely ill-informed by the senses, inter alia I praise the God who is perfect and perfect on all sides.

यस्य ब्रह्मादयो देवा वेदा लोकाश्चराचराः।
नामरूपविभेदेन फल्ग्व्या च कलया कृताः॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ- वो जो ब्रह्मा सहित सभी देवता, चारों वेद, समस्त चर और अचर जीव के नाम और आकृति भेद से जिनके अत्यंत छुद्र अंशों से रचयित हैं।

यथार्चिषोग्नेः सवितुर्गभस्तयोनिर्यान्ति संयान्त्यसकृत स्वरोचिषः।
तथा यतोयं गुणसंप्रवाहोबुद्धिर्मनः खानि शरीरसर्गाः॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ- जिस तरह से जलती हुई अग्नि की लपटें और सूरज की किरणें हर बार बाहर निकलती हैं और फिर से अपने कारण में लीन हो जाती है, उसी प्रकार बुद्धि, मस्तिष्क, इन्द्रियाँ और नाना योनियों के शरीर जिन सभी गुणों से प्राप्त शरीर, जो स्वयं प्रकाश परमात्मा से अवतरित होकर फिर से उन्हें में लीं हो जाता है।

Just as the flames of the burning fire and the rays of the sun come out every time and are absorbed in their cause again, similarly the body of the intellect, brain, senses and the body of the maternal vagrants, all the qualities which are derived from the light itself. स वै न देवासुरमर्त्यतिर्यंगन स्त्री न षण्डो न पुमान न जन्तुः।
नायं गुणः कर्म न सन्न चासननिषेधशेषो जयतादशेषः॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  वह भगवान जो ना तो देवता हैं, ना असुर, ना मनुष्य और ना ही मनुष्य से नीचे किसी अन्य योनि के प्राणी। ना ही वो स्त्री हैं, ना पुरुष और ना ही नपुंसक और ना ही वो कोई ऐसे जीव हैं जिनका इन तीनों ही श्रेणी में समावेश है। वो ना तो गुण हैं, ना कर्म, वो ना ही कार्य हैं और ना ही कारण। इन सभी योनियों का निषेध होने पर जो बचता है, वही उनका असली रूप है। ऐसे प्रभु मेरा उत्थान करने के लिए प्रकट हो।

The God who is neither a deity, nor an asura, nor a human being, nor any other vaginal creature below man. Neither are they women, neither men nor eunuchs, nor are they any such creatures who are included in these three categories. They are neither virtues, nor actions, they are neither acts nor causes. What survives when all these vaginas are prohibited is their true form. May such Lord appear to uplift me.

जिजीविषे नाहमिहामुया कि मन्तर्बहिश्चावृतयेभयोन्या।
इच्छामि कालेन न यस्य विप्लवस्तस्यात्मलोकावरणस्य मोक्षम॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  अब मैं इस मगरमच्छ के चंगुल से आजाद होने के बाद जीवित नहीं रहना चाहता, इसकी वजह ये हैं कि मैं सभी तरफ से अज्ञानता से ढके इस हाथी के शरीर का क्या करूँ। मैं आत्मा के प्रकाश से ढक देने वाले अज्ञानता से युक्त इस हाथी के शरीर से मुक्त होना चाहता हूँ, जिसका कालक्रम से अपने नाश नहीं होता, बल्कि ईश्वर की दया और ज्ञान से उदय हो पाता है।

सोऽहं विश्वसृजं विश्वमविश्वं विश्ववेदसम।
विश्वात्मानमजं ब्रह्म प्रणतोस्मि परं पदम॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ- इस प्रकार से मोक्ष के लिए लालायित संसार के रचियता, स्वयं संसार के रूप में प्रकट, लेकिन संसार से परे, संसार में एक खिलौने की भांति खेलने वाले, संसार में आत्मरूप से व्याप्त, अजन्मा, सर्वव्यापी एवं प्राप्त्य वस्तुओं में सर्वश्रेष्ठ श्री हरी का केवल स्मरण करता हूँ और उनकी शरण में जाता हूँ।

योगरन्धित कर्माणो हृदि योगविभाविते।
योगिनो यं प्रपश्यन्ति योगेशं तं नतोऽस्म्यहम॥                                                                    

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  वह जिन्होनें भगवद्शक्ति रूपी योग के द्वारा कर्मों को जला डाला है, जिन्हे समस्त योगी, ऋषि अपने योग के द्वारा अपनी शुद्ध ह्रदय में प्रकट देखते हैं, उन योगेश्वर भगवान् को मेरा नमस्कार है।

Those who have burnt the deeds through yoga in the form of Bhagavadashakti, whom all Yogis and sages see in their pure hearts through their yoga, I salute those Yogeshwar Gods.

नमो नमस्तुभ्यमसह्यवेग-शक्तित्रयायाखिलधीगुणाय।
प्रपन्नपालाय दुरन्तशक्तयेकदिन्द्रियाणामनवाप्यवर्त्मने॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  वह जिनके तीगुणे शक्तियों का राग, रूप वेग और असह्य है, जो सभी इन्द्रियों के विषय रूप में मौजूद है, वह जिनकी इन्द्रियां समस्त विषयों में ही बसी रहती है, ऐसे लोगों जिनको मार्ग मिलना भी संभव नहीं है, वैसे शरणागत एवं अपार शक्तिशाली वाले भगवान आपको मेरा बारंबार नमस्कार है।

नायं वेद स्वमात्मानं यच्छ्क्त्याहंधिया हतम।
तं दुरत्ययमाहात्म्यं भगवन्तमितोऽस्म्यहम॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  वह जिनकी अविद्या नाम के शक्ति के कार्यरूप से ढँके हुए है, वह जिनके रूप को जीव समझ नहीं पाते है, ऐसे अपार महिमा वाले भगवान की मैं शरण लेता हूँ।

श्री शुकदेव उवाच
                                              
एवं गजेन्द्रमुपवर्णितनिर्विशेषंब्रह्मादयो विविधलिंगभिदाभिमानाः।
नैते यदोपससृपुर्निखिलात्मकत्वाततत्राखिलामर्मयो हरिराविरासीत॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  श्री शुकदेव जी कहते हैं कि, वह जिसने पूर्व प्रकार से भगवान के भेदरहित सभी निराकार रूप का वर्णन किया था, उस गजराज के करीब जब ब्रह्माजी  साथ में अन्य कोई देवता नहीं आये, जो अपने विभिन्न प्रकार के विशेष विग्रहों को ही अपना रूप मानते हैं, ऐसे में साक्षात् विष्णु जी, जो सभी के आत्मा होने के कारण सभी देवताओं के रूप हैं, तब वहां प्रकट हुए।

Shri Shukdev Ji says that he who had earlier described all the formless forms of God without distinction, close to that Gajraj when no other gods came together with Brahmaji, who consider their various types of special Deities as their own. , In such a situation, that Vishnu, who being the soul of all, is the form of all the gods, then appeared there.

तं तद्वदार्त्तमुपलभ्य जगन्निवासःस्तोत्रं निशम्य दिविजैः सह संस्तुवद्भि:।
छन्दोमयेन गरुडेन समुह्यमानश्चक्रायुधोऽभ्यगमदाशु यतो गजेन्द्रः॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ- गजराज को इस प्रकार से दुखी देखकर और उसके पढ़े गए स्तुति को सुनकर चक्रधारी प्रभु इच्छानुसार वेग वाले गरुड़ की पीठ पर सवार होकर सभी देवों के साथ उस स्थान पर पहुंचे जहाँ वह गज था।

सोऽन्तस्सरस्युरुबलेन गृहीत आर्त्तो दृष्ट्वा गरुत्मति हरि ख उपात्तचक्रम।
उत्क्षिप्य साम्बुजकरं गिरमाह कृच्छान्नारायण्खिलगुरो भगवान नम्स्ते॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  सरोवर के अंदर महाबलशाली मगरमच्छ द्वारा जकड़े और दुखी उस हाथी ने आसमान में गरुड़ की पीठ पर बैठे और हाथों में चक्र लिए भगवान् विष्णु को आते हुए जब देख, तो वह अपनी सूँड में पहले से ही उनकी पूजा के लिए रखे कमल के फूल को श्री हरी पर बरसाते हुए कहने लगा ''सर्वपूज्य भगवान श्री हरी आपको मेरा प्रणाम ''सर्वपूज्य भगवान् श्री हरी आपको मेरा नमस्कार''।

ग्राहाद विपाटितमुखादरिणा गजेन्द्रंसम्पश्यतां हरिरमूमुचदुस्त्रियाणाम॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ-  लाचार हाथी को देखकर श्री हरी विष्णु, गरुड़ से नीचे उतरकर सरोवर में उतर आये और बेहद दुखी होकर ग्राह सहित उस गज को तुरंत ही सरोवर से बहार निकाल आये और देखते ही देखते अपने चक्र से मगरमच्छ के गर्दन को काट दिए और हाथी को उस पीड़ा से बहार निकाल लिया।

Seeing the helpless elephant, Shri Hari Vishnu came down from the Garuda and came down to the lake and, being very unhappy, immediately took out that yard with Graha from the lake and on seeing it cut the crocodile's neck from his chakra and gave the elephant that agony. Removed from outside.
